Christakos Cabin
Minong, Wisconsin

The cabin and weekend getaway for the owners and their guests is located on a peninsula in a northwestern Wisconsin  lake. The design for the cabin creates a long extruded tube containing a main living space for the owners and their family, along with a detached bunkhouse living quarters for guests. A covered breezeway connects the two separate volumes, creating a place to be outdoors in inclement weather. A fire pit is located in the breezeway, with an opening in the roof structure, providing an archetypal gathering point. The massing of the extruded tube form presents a primarily blank facade toward the road and entry. The long elevation facing the lake however is rendered open to the views of the lake, with floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. At each end of the tube, large sliding glazed panels open to intimate balconies, creating framed views of the lake or forest understory.
